From White Supremacism To Black Liberation: Harry S. Truman, Lynching and Racial Justice

President Truman transitioned from an initially more conservative policy advocated by white supremacists to a progressive one that promoted fairer social justice in the United States society, hitherto seldom heard. Through constitutional articles and debates, editorials, institutional records, speeches response some of World War II’s black veteran lynching cases, this paper aims explore Truman’s civil-political commitment ending frequent episodes racial violence.
